With the aim of continuing to foster talent development, strengthen the link between education and the business sector, and promote innovation, Zonamerica and the UTU signed a cooperation agreement that will enable technical training to be offered on the business campus.

The signing ceremony took place on Thursday, December 18, at the Zonamerica offices and includes, among other provisions, the establishment of an office for the General Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education (DGETP–UTU) within the park. This permanent presence will aim to integrate academic training with the business ecosystem, promoting learning in a real-world work environment.

One of the key highlights of the agreement is the launch of the Supply Chain Technology program, which will begin in March 2026 at Zonamerica. The program will be administered by the Villa García Technical School and is designed for both park employees and residents of the Canelones region and the greater metropolitan area.

This program will allow employees of companies located on campus to earn academic credits, and will offer a dual-track format starting in the second year, combining academic coursework with internships in a business setting. In addition, the program will be available online and asynchronously, with at least half of the student body consisting of employees from the campus complex.

Regarding this initiative, the CEO of Zonamerica, Martín Dovat, noted:

“We are very pleased to be launching this joint program with UTU and to be working together. We hope this will lead to more people receiving training and to opportunities for young people to secure internships and jobs at companies on campus, as well as to help those already working at Zonamerica gain recognition for their skills.”

The agreement also outlines strategies to help park employees complete their elementary and high school education, as well as the option for graduates of the Holberton coding school to transfer credits toward UTU’s computer science programs.

In addition, both institutions committed to developing projects related to education, research, and technology transfer, as well as training and professional development initiatives focused on areas critical to regional development. Within this framework, internship and professional training programs will be implemented to enable students to gain hands-on experience in the workplace.

For her part, the executive director of UTU, Virginia Verderese, noted:

“This agreement is a win-win for both parties. We are very grateful to Zonamerica for providing a space that allows us to develop new initiatives and continue expanding educational opportunities in this region.”

Officials from UTU and Zonamerica, including representatives from the academic, administrative, human resources, and organizational development departments, participated in the signing of the agreement, reaffirming their shared commitment to education, employability, and the growth of the business ecosystem.
