A company’s office and warehouse are included in its ESG report: the electricity and water they consume, their waste, and employees’ working conditions. For a multinational company with reduction targets, choosing where to set up operations also determines what data it will be able to report. This guide outlines which indicators depend on the location and what to ask the operator.

Which part of the ESG report depends on the headquarters?

Electricity consumed. This is reported under Scope 2 emissions (GHG Protocol). You must request the measured consumption from the operator, either by building or by unit.

Renewable energy. This is reported as the share of renewables in total consumption. You must request the site’s on-site generation data and the grid mix from the operator.

Water. Water consumption and reuse are reported. The operator should be asked for consumption figures by building and details on reuse systems.

Waste. Both waste generation and recovery are reported. You should ask the operator for the facility’s waste separation and recycling programs.

Building. This is reported through sustainable building certifications. You must ask the operator for the current certification for the building in question.

Well-being. This is reported in the social indicators related to working conditions. You should ask the operator for the well-being certifications and the services provided to individuals.

How to Read a Building's Certifications

LEED. It evaluates a building's overall environmental performance. At Zonamerica, Celebra was the first building in Uruguay to earn LEED Gold certification in 2015.

EDGE. Assesses efficiency in the use of resources: energy, water, and materials. At Zonamerica, the Logos building has this certification.

WELL. It assesses people's health and well-being: air, water, light, and comfort, among other factors. At Zonamerica, the Sabre building earned WELL Core Gold certification in 2024.

MAS. It evaluates environmental, social, and responsible design criteria. At Zonamerica, the Life building meets these criteria.

A rule of thumb: LEED and EDGE are used for environmental indicators; WELL is used for social indicators.

What information from campus can a company based in Zonamerica use?
  • Energy: The “ campus ” generates its own solar power. Between October 2024 and September 2025, the solar panels generated 1,655,816 kWh, accounting for about 7% of the energy consumed during that period.
  • Energy management: The buildings are equipped with smart energy management systems.
  • Water: monitoring consumption, reuse, and alternative sources for irrigation.
  • Waste: Management based on reduction, separation, and recycling, with waste sorting throughout the campus.
  • Wellness:Life Sports Club, " Campus " Experience program, talent services, and training.
  • ESG Reporting and Ratings: Zonamerica prepares its own ESG report and holds an ESG rating from FIX SCR.

That approach earned Zonamerica the “Sustainable Free Zone of the Year – Americas” award from fDi Intelligence in 2025. If your company is evaluating where to set up operations and needs this information for its reports, let’s talk: comercial@zonamerica.com.
